Arizona Drivers Education Requirements

Arizona is among the many states in the United States that has strict guidelines that must be followed in order to prevent unnecessary automobile risks. Teens account for many of the accidents, injuries, fatalities, and destruction of property due to automobiles every year. Driver’s education programs were put in place to help better prepare teens for the responsibilities involved in driving a car, and these programs meet state requirements for getting a learner’s permit or driver’s license.

Drivers must be at least 15 years 7 months of age before they are allowed to operate an automobile lawfully. Once you receive your learner’s permit, you can begin a driver’s education program. While it is not required to take driver’s education in order to receive your driver’s license, it is very helpful. If you forego driver’s education classes, you must still have a minimum of 25 documented hours behind the wheel (five of which must be at night) before you can get your driver’s license. You must drive with a parent or legal guardian at all times.

Once you receive your instruction permit, you must drive for at least five months with it before you will be allowed to take the driving test for your driver’s license. Whether you are taking a professional driver’s education program or are a home schooled student, this minimum driving time still applies. There are also forms that your parent or legal guardian must sign stating that they are assuming responsibility for your driving instructions, in order for the state to help you realize just how awesome the responsibility of driving really is.
