Florida Drivers Education Requirements
Like most states, Florida has its own set of limitations governing teen driving. This is to protect those who drive in Florida, as well as those who are along for the ride. Most drivers’ education courses are electives in public schools, and this class will normally outline the requirements needed to be met by young people in that state. Florida offers a systematic driving freedom program, with 15, 16, 17, and 18 year olds each achieving a different amount of privilege in driving.
Learners must be at least 15 years old before they can drive a car. 15-year-old learners should be escorted by a passenger who is at least 21 years old at all times or they run the risk of losing their learner’s permit. They are also restricted to driving during the daylight hours only. After a year of permit experience, including a minimum of 50 instructional hours, 10 of which must be at night, parents can sign a testimonial stating that the teen is “ready” to drive.
If you do not go to public school or yours does not offer the essential in-class requirements, you may visit your local Department of Motor Vehicles to get a list of private companies that have been approved to offer the required courses. This class includes the required Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education course that is very important to understanding some basic driving restrictions and consequent penalties for breaking those restrictions
