Georgia Drivers Education Requirements
Like many other states, the state of Georgia has restrictions and guidelines that must be followed in regards to young drivers. Driver’s education is a great way for teens to gain the valuable time and expertise they need in order to drive safely. Not only is this driver’s education a helpful asset, though, it is also the law. Those under the age of 16 are required to complete this course of study before they will get their driver’s licenses.
In the state of Georgia, teens are required to be at least 15 years old before they can receive their learner’s permits. Teens are required to have driven for at least 40 hours (at least 6 must be at night) under their parents’ supervision, in addition to the required driver’s education courses. Additionally, learners who drop out of school or are expelled from school will be required to hand in their license or permit until they reach 18 years old, or for one year (whichever comes first).
A course of study called the Alcohol and Drug Awareness Program is required for those wishing to get a learner’s permit or driver’s license. This program helps show teens what can happen if they do not drive responsibly, especially if under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. Many states have similar programs that are required to be completed prior to getting a learner’s permit or driving license, in the hopes of cutting down on the number of teen deaths due to automobile accident (especially in the areas of drinking and driving or driving under the influence of drugs).
