Texas Drivers Education Requirements
Most of the United States has adopted a graduated licensing program. The state of Texas is no exception to this rule. Foundation of this program was under the auspices of training teen drivers to recognize the danger they put not only themselves but also others in when they make bad decisions while driving an automobile. In addition, driver’s education is also a valuable way to communicate good behavior and safe driving habits to teen drivers.
You must be a minimum of at least 15 years old to apply for a learner’s permit in the state of Texas (although you can take driver’s education at 14). You must complete driver’s education at this time, and a certificate of completion will be required before you can obtain your driver’s license. Your parents can teach you the required material for driver’s education, but if they either cannot or choose not to, many state-approved locations are available. Unless you are at least 18 years old when you apply for your first driver’s license, you will also need documentation to prove enrollment in school or have completion of school.
While you are driving with a learner’s permit, teens should be accompanied at all times by a licensed driver who is at least 21 years old in the front passenger seat. State-approved driver’s education courses include both in-classroom training and behind-the-wheel training, and driving observation is included as well. In this method, whether your parent, legal guardian, or a licensed driving instructor is the one teaching driving skills, that impartation of skills is guaranteed to teen drivers who study.
